I have a sweet friend who has just given birth to a beautiful baby girl. I wanted to do something special for her, and a one of a kind birth announcement wall hanging seemed perfect. The baby’s room is being done in purple butterflies, so it made the theme for this wall hanging easy. I also wanted to add a blessing to the painting. The blessing is the same one that hung in my son’s nursery, oh so many years ago, so it had a special meaning to me.
This is the painting that I did for sweet little Chloe Nicole. I hope her Mommy & Daddy like it.
I started with a stretched canvas & every shade of purple acrylic paint that I owned, plus a bright blue & white. I also used painting medium to keep the paint flowing as I added more layers. I put the paint on to a foam plate & dipped my brush into 2 or 3 colors at a time & painted in an upward, slanted movement.
I just kept layering on the paint until I got the look that I wanted. There is no right or wrong way to do this. If you don’t like it, just paint over it. I kept the upper right section a little lighter than the rest of the canvas.
I kept adding shades of purple until I got it the way I liked it.
Once the canvas had dried, I added some lilac vines, purple roses, green leaves & 3 butterflies. I outlined the butterfly wings with black to give the wings a stained glass look. I kept some blue in the wings to break up all of the purple & added white dots along the outside of the wings to make them ‘pop’.

Then I added some white pearl paint to the butterflies & the tips of the roses. The pearl paint gives the butterflies the look of abalone.
On the left hand side, I added the blessing.
Here it is while it was waiting for the baby’s info.
Once little Chloe was here, I could add all of her information. Then I shaded all of the lettering with the darkest purple that I had.
It was now finished & ready to give to the new parents.
I hope they liked it.
Happy Creating everyone!
