Walmart has gotten in some of the prettiest ornaments this year. I feel like a kid in a candy store when I go to the Christmas section. When I found this little dove in a bird cage, I saw so many possibilities, besides hanging it on the tree.
This is how I changed an ornament into what will be the focal point for a vignette or a centerpiece.
This is how the original ornament looked. It looked so delicate as it was, but I could see so much more.
I started by painting the pale pink berries with some Tacky Glue & then sprinkling them with some pink glitter, just to intensify the color. Then, using hot glue, I added some pink ribbon roses among the berries. Finally, I added some loops of pearls to the roses & berries.
Working on the bottom of the cage, I glued on some gathered lace around the rim.
Then I painted a wooden disk white. Once the paint had dried, I used the Tacky Glue to add some white glitter to one side.
I used hot glue to glue the disk, glitter side up, on to the base of the cage. If you’re going to date the ornament, now is the time.
To give it some height, I used a glass candle holder from the Dollar Tree. They have two sizes available, one is short & one is taller. I used the short one. I added some hot glue to the top of the candle holder & added it to the center of the wooden disk.
I covered the top of the gathered lace with some white ribbon with hot glue.
Then I added some pearls to the ribbon, some bows made from the ribbon & some white ribbon roses. I added some more pearls that draped down from the ribbon roses.
It’s finished & ready to be added to a vignette or a centerpiece. It would still be a beautiful ornament if you left the candle holder off.
Happy Creating everyone!
