You would think that after all these years of living in Western Pennsylvania, I’d be used to the weather, but it still takes me off guard & amazes me. Mother Nature can still surprise me, and scare the daylights out of me. God gives us such beauty to look at, but it can also be so dangerous and frightening to be in. (Especially when you’re as afraid to drive in the snow as I am.) This is the scene that I saw when I came out of work.
The end of January brought 7 1/2″ of snow, which would sound like the ‘big snow‘, for the year around here. But what hit us last night seemed unreal.
Yes, that’s my car marked in the circle. I zoomed in to get a better picture, but the snow was coming down so hard that this is the best picture that I could get:
When I went to work last night, it had hit a high of 30 degrees and was going down to 12 degrees, the roads were dry, and the wind wasn’t too bad at 12 miles per hour. I went outside at 9:45 last night to see how the weather looked & it was still dry. (we were expecting a snow storm to hit around midnight) Then around 10:00, customers started to come in telling us that the snow was starting. By 10:30, it looked like a blizzard! An inch of snow has fallen in half an hour. At 11:30, when I was ready to leave, it looked like this:
It wasn’t bad enough that the snow was coming down so fast, but it started to come down like little, very wet, ice balls.
You can see how bad the visibility was.
Needless to say, I knew that I’d never get home in one piece. I’m a white knuckle driver in an inch of snow. This terrified me.
By this time, I was too panicked to attempt the drive. I called my husband and asked him if he could come and get me. His truck has 4-wheel drive. And God bless him, he came as quickly as he could. Driving home was slow, the roads had been plowed, but it had been coming down so fast that you could barely tell.
But thank God we got home in one piece, safe & sound.
Happy Creating everyone! And stay safe out there.
