Atomic Mirror Ornament

We’re only a few weeks away from Christmas, so I decided to get a head start on some new Christmas ornaments.  The first ornament for this season is actually a trial for a much larger project.  I wasn’t sure how it would turn out, but I’m actually quite pleased.  It was easier to make than I thought it would be.

This is my Atomic Mirror Ornament.

I have wanted an Atomic Mirror/Starburst Mirror for years, but the prices are much more than I want to spend.  (a starburst mirror is silver & a sunburst mirror is gold)  Every starburst mirror that I’ve found is always done with a round mirror, but I like a diamond shape, so I wasn’t sure if it would look right.  I decided to make a miniature & it became a Christmas ornament.

Since it was small, I chose to use round toothpicks.  I put them in a box so they wouldn’t blow away when I spray painted them.  By shaking the box while I was spraying the toothpicks, the paint covered them easily.

After they dried, I put them back in their box until I was ready to do the project.

The supplies needed were the painted toothpicks, 2 1″ mirrors, silver sequins. an ornament hanger & a hot glue gun with glue sticks.

I broke the toothpicks in half, then hot glued them to each corner and in between the corner ones.  Then I added more toothpicks in between those.

After all of the toothpicks were glued down, I added an ornament hanger.  I made mine from wire to make it longer than usual.

Once the hanger was in place, I used more hot glue to add the second mirror to the back.

Then I glued some sequins to every other toothpick end.

Then went back & glued sequins to the middle of the toothpicks that didn’t have a sequin.

That’s it!  It’s done.

You could try this with round mirrors, gold paint & gold sequins for the sunburst mirror, or paint the toothpicks any color that you’re using this year, adding colored sequins to match the toothpick color.  Have fun with this, and make it your own.

Happy Creating everyone!
