Beaded Tea Light Holder

I have spent countless hours & two days to make this Beaded Tea Light Holder, but I think it was worth it.  You won’t believe what it looked like before I started!

This is how I did it.

This is what the original tea light holders looked like.  Yep, they’re ugly.

I’d gotten them at the Dollar General on sale for 50% off.  They were originally $3.00 each.  I liked the shape of them, and knew that I would change them up.  I started off by taking the shells off of the holders.

I put the shells away for another project.

I painted them white & got out my supplies.  White thread, a sewing needle & some beads that I’d found at Walmart and some seed beads.

(and a whole lot of patients)

I started by threading about a yard & a half of thread on to the needle & then put a knot at the ends.  (making the thread doubled)  Then I tied the knotted end on to the rim of the candle holder.

Then I added beads to the thread.  There was no rhyme or reason as to how many beads that I threaded on.  I just mixed the 2 sizes to give them different lengths.  Although the shortest strand was 5 small, 1 large, 5 small & 1 seed bead.  Just make sure that the strand is ended with a seed bead.

Then I passed the threaded needle back up through the beads, leaving the seed bead as an anchor.

After the thread was back up at the top, I knotted the thread around the ring of the tea light holder.

I repeated the knots around the ring 3 times.  That seemed to give me enough space between strands.

I kept adding strands until it was full.  Once it was full, I clipped off any thread tails that were poking up.  Then I used hot glue to attach some clear iridescent pearls to the top to cover the knots.

It’s amazing what a little Bling will do!

Add the candle.  (I might use a battery operated candle)

I love the reflections the candle light gives off through the beads at night.

I’m not sure if I’ll do another one or not, but I have plenty of beads left over!

I really do like the way the ugly black tea lights turned out!  Some time, patients, and a lot of Bling paid off.
