Chopped DIY Challenge

This was a challenge that took me completely out of my comfort zone. We were to have someone (Hubby & Son) pick 5 items from our crafting stash, and then put the items in a box. We could use a hot glue gun, paint & ribbon & must use the 5 items from the box to make something.

My guys chose some wooden blocks, some wooden shapes that look like flat thread spools, a set of miniature china, a small stretched canvas & some plastic ‘crystal’ shapes.

The first thing that I did was to paint the wood. It’s a habit of mine to seal the wood & to prime it if I decide to paint it a different color.

Then I started to arrange & glue the items together. What I came up with was something that looks like a miniature tea party.

This was such a fun challenge for me. Like I said, it completely took me out of my comfort zone, but it really got my creative juices flowing.

Happy Creating everyone!

Harbor Freight Haul

I’ve been wanting to go to Harbor Freight for awhile, but I never seem to find the time.  The more I looked at their ads or looked at their website, the more I wanted to check this place out.  My son goes there for tools all the time, but this was my first visit.

The weather was beautiful.  The sun was shining, it was warm with a nice breeze, and I had the company of my son’s special someone, Amanda.  Spending time shopping with her made the trip even better.

There were 3 things that I wanted, and they were in stock!

Apple Barrel Paint Haul

It’s been about a year since I got the painting bug.  I guess it’s because it’s getting cold outside that I’ve been painting again.  Oh, I’ve done little projects, but I’ve got the urge to paint some ornaments.  I started to pull out my old paints, and a lot of them had gotten thick & a little lumpy.  And some of my brushes have seen better days.

I went to the craft section of Walmart to get some new angle brushes & 2 colors of paint.  The paints were on sale… and this is what I got.

Painting Table Scatter

When I’m putting together a tablescape, one of the items that I love to use is table scatter, or flat back marbles.  It always adds a little ‘bling’ to the table & helps to bring more of the chosen color towards the center of the table.

But what if I can’t find or don’t have the color I want?  I make my own.  It’s easy to do and with the colors of paints available, you can have your table scatter match any table.

Personalized Tote Bags

I like using canvas bags when I go shopping.  Why?  They’re sturdier than the plastic bags that the stores offer,  most of the plastic bags have holes in them (nothing like chasing your groceries through the store’s parking lot), and I think that when you’re not looking, they reproduce all by themselves.  When you use canvas bags, you don’t have to gather them up & take them back to the store to be recycled, like you have to do with plastic.

But… most of the canvas bags have store logos on them or are downright ugly.  The nice looking ones can run into some money, and start off heavy, which doesn’t help when trying to lug groceries into the house.

When I was browsing the craft department at Walmart, I found a package of plain white canvas totes.  Being the crafter that I am, I got all kinds of ideas in my head & had to grab a package!

I now have canvas shopping totes just for shopping at the craft stores!

Why Do I Blog?

Why do I blog?

The answer to that question might seem a bit morbid.  Basically, I wanted to share what I know, before I go.

I’ve been crafting most of my life. Crafting is a passion for me that can reduce the stress that the outside world can dump on us.  It keeps my mind working, sometimes to obsession.  And it gives me so much satisfaction when I’m making pretty things for my home & the people I care for.  But mostly, I want to inspire people to try some of the things that I’ve shown.

It was never to brag about what I have or what I can do.  My blog is about showing you what you can do.
