Water Gems

For those of you that haven’t seen these, I thought I’d share them with you.  They’re called Water Gems or Aqua Beads. (We’ll be playing with them a little later on)

They start off very tiny when they are in their dry state.  And they come in a variety of colors to go with your home.

Shabby Chic Gift Box

When I give a gift to someone, I like to have the wrapping do double duty.  If it’s a larger gift, I always try to use a fabric shopping bag instead of a paper one that people will eventually throw out.  (Walmart has some really pretty ones for only 88 cents in their accessories section)  When I give a smaller gift, I try to make sure that the packaging is as useful as the gift.  That’s why I decorate so many small wooden boxes.  Call it an Altered Box or a Shabby Chic Box, it’s just something that I like to decorate.

Here’s my latest Shabby Chic Gift Box that will be perfect for a piece of jewelry.

NASCAR Tablescape

The men in my life love their sports.  NASCAR is no exception.  We’re still Dale Earnhardt fans, and miss the excitement off his way of racing.  While Mr. Earnhardt was alive, we collected memorabilia of his.  So, why not decorate with it?  I decided to surprise my men with a tablescape that is completely NASCAR.  And naturally, in our home, it’s a Dale Earnhardt theme.

Daisy Birdhouse Wind Chime

I’m still playing around with birdhouses.  I wanted to make a special birdhouse for my sister.  She has a wonderful garden that makes me feel peaceful when I go there.

I know that she’s partial to green & daises.  So it was only natural for me to make a green birdhouse & paint some daises on it for her.

Corner Booth Makeover

When we first moved into our home, we bought this corner booth.  I wanted it not only for the seating, but for the extra storage that was built into the seats.  But I don’t like browns, not the color or in wood tones.   And for years, I would look at this booth & cringe.

By now, you know the way I think.  If you like the piece, but the color doesn’t go with your home…. paint it!  So I did.

Father’s Day Photo Centerpiece-tutorial

Father’s Day is just around the corner.  I’ll be doing one of my usual tablescapes.  But I needed a centerpiece for it.  I could have put flowers on the table, but I thought that was too girly for a man.  I could have used a cake as a centerpiece, but that idea bored me.  I needed something special for a man who is not only the glue that holds this family together, but a wonderful father. It had to be unique.  Then the light bulb went off in my head.  And by now, you know that when I get an idea in my head, I’ll find a way to make it work. This is the idea that I came up with:

Wooden Desk Organizer

I found this little wooden desk organizer at the local thrift shop about 6 months ago.  I put it on our bookcase, on our desk, in the craft room, & back on the bookcase.  It just didn’t fit our decor.  But what to do with it?  I liked it, but brown wood just doesn’t fit in our home.  It was sitting on my desk, and I was just staring at it.  I knew it would come to me, eventually.  Then it hit me.  It needed painted…. and mirrors.  This is the before & the after.

No Sew Place Mat

I’ve recently gotten a request from someone who doesn’t have a sewing machine, but wants to create her own unique tablescapes. So I thought I’d share a quick way to make placemats without having to sew a stitch.

Here’s what you’ll need: Continue reading

Shabby Chic Candelabra

My mother-in-law gave me this candelabra when we were first married.  It’s now 22 years old.  It was gold plated & absolutely beautiful.  But with time, the gold plating was coming off & it was starting to look a little worse for wear.  I wanted to use it, but it needed help.  So, I did the unthinkable.  I painted it.  It has gone from a gold candelabra to a Shabby Chic Candelabra!  And all it took was a little paint, some crystals & a little patients.
