Decorating Votive Candle Holders is very easy. Some of them when finished, can be very expensive. I’ll show you how to make 4 of them for very little money. They can be customized to go with what ever you need them for. Decorating, Weddings, Parties, Gifts…
The Rhinestone Votive Candle Holder:
For this one, you only need 3 things: A glass Votive Holder, (you probably have one in your home now) a package of Darice Adhesive Back Acrylic Gems (1 piece) (I found mine at Michaels) and scissors. The rhinestones come in many colors, pick one that goes with your decor.
Using the scissors, cut apart the strip of rhinestones. You can make it as wide or as thin as you like.
Cut the rhinestone strip long enough to fit around the votive holder. Peel off the backing & adhere to the votive holder.
That’s it! (Have you seen what they charge for these?)
The Glitter Votive Candle Holder:
What you need: An empty clear glass Votive Candle Holder, Mod Podge, Stickers, Glitter, paint brush and a straight pin.
Choose the stickers that you want & place them randomly on your votive holder.
Using the paint brush, Mod Podge over the entire votive & stickers.
Pour on the color glitter of your choice.
Let the glue dry a little, then shake off the excess glitter. (I always glitter over a folded piece of copy paper. The fold makes it easier to pour the glitter back into the bottle)
You can see where the sticker is through the votive from the inside of the votive.
Using the straight pin, lift the sticker off of the votive. (You only have to lift a corner of the sticker & it will come right off)
Put a coat of Mod Podge over the entire votive holder to seal the glitter to the votive. (that way the glitter won’t end up all over your house & drive the family nuts)
Set it aside to dry & it’s done!
The Ribbon Votive:
What you’ll need: A votive holder. (I used on that already had a candle in it ) Buckles (I found these at Walmart in the button section, they only look like they have rhinestones) (You can get the buckles with rhinestones at JoAnn’s, Pat Catans, or Michaels.) Ribbon to fit through the buckles & long enough to go around the votive, scissors to cut the ribbon, and a hot glue gun & glue sticks.
Thread the ribbon through the buckle.
Add a drop of hot glue to the center of the votive holder
Press the ribbon threaded buckle into the glue making sure that the buckle is straight. (take my word on this step, ahem)
Glue the ends of the ribbon onto the back of the votive
And you’re done! (I swear, I’ve seen these advertised for up to $6.00 each!
The Tissue Votive Candle Holder
What you’ll need: A glass votive holder (with or without candle), tissue paper in assorted colors, Mod Podge, paint brush, scissors
Cut or tear off pieces of the colored tissue paper. I cut mine in heart shapes. You do what ever makes you happy.
Using the paint brush, coat the votive holder with Mod Podge.
Add your tissue to the wet Mod Podge.
Keep adding layers until the votive holder is covered. Use a prominent color for the final layer. (Naturally, I used purple)
Let it dry, and it’s done!
With a little time and very little money, you can decorate your glass votive holders to match any decor! These can be customized for any theme or holiday, or use as wedding or party favors. Have fun with this one!
Happy Creating everyone!
