I’m not much of a baker anymore. I really don’t like to cook. But I saw something in Wal-Mart’s ad that I had to try. It was Duff’s Pastel Tie-Dye Cake mix. The colors looked like Easter. After two tries, I finally have a sweet cake for Easter Dessert!
This is the Tie-Dye cake mix. Looks like Easter to me!
I was very excited to try it. I gathered all of my ingredients together.
I got 6 bowls to mix the colors of the batter. I even went so far as to use Post-it-notes to keep them organized.
I gave the cake pans a good coat of Pam (like it said to do), and then I layered the colors into the pan. This is where the Post-it-notes really helped because you put the colors in the pans by order, and the second pan is in the reverse.
I baked them according to the package directions. When a tooth pick came out clean, I removed them from the oven. So far, so good.
When they had cooled, I flipped the pans over to remove them. What I got was an Epic Fail!
The cakes stuck to the bottom of the pans! It was a pretty colored mess.
I am stubborn Irish. I was not about to let this cake get the better of me. So, starting again with a fresh box of mix, I tried it again. The colors of the first batch came out a little intense, so I used smaller drops of the food coloring so that is was more pastel And this time, I did it the old fashioned way. I greased the pans with Crisco & then floured them.
This time the cakes came out of the pans with ease. (Thank God) I put a layer of icing in between the cakes & them iced them completely with Whipped icing. Once they were iced, I got out all of the marshmallow bunnies. I used blue, pink, green & purple bunnies.
I cut the bunnies apart with my kitchen scissors & pressed them into the icing, alternating the colors.
Then I got out some chocolate canned icing. I used it to make a nest on the top of the cake.
Then I got some M&M speckled eggs and put them into the center of the nest.
You can’t have a nest with eggs without some Peeps. I cut 2 of them off & placed them on either side of the nest.
And it was finished! It only took me trying this twice, but I did it.
And how did the cake turn out? I like it.
How does it taste? It’s white cake.
I guess being ‘stubborn Irish’ paid off. Who knows, maybe next time I’ll try the Zebra mix!
Wishing you all a blessed Easter.
Happy Creating everyone!
