When I found some over-sized, chalk painted Easter eggs at Walmart, I just had to grab them up. As soon as I saw them, I got this idea in my head. By now, you know that when I get one of those ideas, I have to go with it. This is what I came up with.
They were easy to do & I can’t wait to use them in a tablescape.
I have a ‘thing’ for wooden pieces. I love the way a little paint can customize them any way I want them. I started off with two 3″ round wood disks & two candle cups. You can find these at Michaels, Joanne Fabrics or Pat Catans.
I base coated them with white acrylic paint & then hot glued them together.
Then I painted them with 2 coats of turquoise acrylic paint.
These are the over-sized eggs. You can see how much bigger they are compared to regular sized eggs.
Then I pulled out all of the pastel colored paints that I had & decorated the eggs. This is where you can really go crazy, or keep it simple. Have fun with this step.
I had these candle holders since my trip to Pat Catan’s & I’ve been wanting to use them. This was the perfect time to do just that. You can see that the bottom of the candle holders have a rounded base that was perfect for sitting on the top of the eggs.
I painted the candle holders with the same turquoise acrylic paint that I used for the base pieces, using 2 coats.
Then I added some hot glue to the top of the egg & glued on the painted candle holders. (and yes, I did use a small level when I glued on the holders, but that’s just me. You could eyeball it.)
All that was needed was to add some candles.
Here they are lit:
I hope you liked this simple project. You can make this as simple or as elaborate as you want them. And by changing up the colors, you can make them fit into any color scheme that you’re doing.
And the little ones can have a blast decorating the eggs. I can just see the looks on their faces. Especially if it’s a gift for Grandma.
Happy Creating everyone!
