Embellishing Filigree

I’ve been on a new kick lately (so what else is new?)  It all started with watching entirely too much YouTube.  On my latest shopping haul, I showed you some packages of Butterfly filigree that I got at Walmart.  You can find that here.  Well, this is what I did with them:

They started off pretty, but plain.

When I took them off of the card, the larger butterflies came apart in two pieces.  I love the largest one.

So I gathered my supplies, AB Rhinestones, E-6000, a toothpick (to apply the glue), a plastic lid (to put the glue on) and the butterflies.  I used tweezers to place the rhinestones.

Warning!

(Use the E-6000 in a well ventilated area!  The fumes from it can be overwhelming!)

I put a drop of the E-6000 onto the plastic lid, and using the toothpick, I put the glue onto the filigree where I wanted to put the rhinestones.

The little butterfly needed an antennae.  I took a head pin from my jewelry stash & clipped off the head of the pin.  Then I bent the remaining wire in half.

Using round nose jewelry pliers, I made a loop at the either end of the wire.  Once I got the ends of the wire formed into loops, I turned the butterfly over & used the E-6000 to glue the wire antennae to the butterfly.

What am I going to do with the finished pieces?  I’m still not sure.  I thought that I could always glue it to a stick pin.  Or maybe I could glue a pin back to it.  Or maybe I’ll find a way to add it to a tablescape. (now that could really be pretty)  Or use in a centerpiece?  I can already tell that I’m going to have a ball with these!

I must warn you, though, once you start to play around with this, it can be very addictive.  I had an angel zipper pull, that was just hanging around, so I had to add some crystals to her, too.

I need to get some more crystals.  🙂
