Fall Lantern Tutorial

When I put together my Fall Tablescape-3 Ways, the first tablescape had a Fall Lantern as the centerpiece.  It is easy to make & can be easily removed after the season has changed.  The same principal can be used for the upcoming Christmas season, simply by changing the ribbon and florals.

Here’s how I changed a plain lantern into a Fall lantern.

The lantern is a battery operated lantern with a timer.  I like having the room lit at night with these.  But, it is plain.

The first thing that I did to change it, was to make a bow from wire edged ribbon.  I like this kind of ribbon for bow making because it’s so easy to fluff up the loops & make the bow look fuller.

I used long chenille stems to tie the bow together.

I added an extra long loop at the end.  This will be your long tails.

Fold the large loop in half, then again in half, matching the wire edge.

Then I cut the ribbon in a slant cut.  When the ribbon is opened, it forms a perfect V at the end.

Then with an extra piece of ribbon, I made an extra set of tails, repeating the V cut at the ends.

I used the chenille stem to anchor the ribbon to the top of the lantern.  After it had been anchored, I added the extra tails to the back.

When it’s anchored to the top, fluff the bow.

Then I gathered up some Fall foliage.   I used Fall leaves, berries and assorted flowers, cutting the stems about 1″ to 1 1/2″ long.

I also used some German Statice & some brown glitter branches that I found at Walmart in the Christmas section.

I started the bow arrangement by hot gluing in the Fall leaves.  I only glued to the bow, not the lantern.  This way it can be easily removed with out harming the finish on the lantern.

Once I’d gotten the leaves placed where I wanted them, I went on to adding the berries, branches, German Statice, and flowers between the bow’s loops.  (When working with florals, use odd numbers.  It’s more pleasing to the eye)

That’s all there is to it!  It’s now ready to grace any place in your home.

I hope you give it a try.  It’s so easy to add a little extra something to your decorating.

Happy Creating everyone!
