It’s that time of the year again. Season’s changing, holidays are coming fast & once again, I’m a little behind on decorating. I’ve seen so many new decorations in the stores for the Fall, but the prices are outrageous. Since I have a tendency to be a little frugal, I started my fall decorations by making my own.
Here’s the first Fall decoration for this year. It’s easy to make, inexpensive & can be customized to go with any color theme you want.
Happy Fall everyone!
I bought enough leaf shaped wooden pieces to spell out what I wanted it to say, and then gathered some acrylic paints that said Fall to me.
I painted the outside of the shapes first then I painted the leaf shapes in different colors.
Once the paint had dried, I painted the backs of the shapes.
I had a wooden sign shape on hand (they come in a 10 pack) and I painted it with copper paint. I like copper with Fall colors. While that was drying, I used a black Sharpie to write in the letters for my sign.
Once the copper paint had dried, I arranged the leaf shapes the way I wanted them, then used hot glue to glue them into place around the wood sign.
When the shapes were glued into place, I flipped it over. The next step was to add a hanger to it. I like using fishing line because it’s hard to see when you hang your project. A stapler will hold the fishing line in place.
I put a knot in the end of the fishing line. Tie the knot several times to make sure it won’t slip out from under the staple. Once you get the knot tied, staple it in place.
Repeat on the other side.
I couldn’t stand knowing that the label was on the back, I removed it & painted it copper. Then with white acrylic paint, I dated & signed it.
Once the paint dried, it was finished.
And ready to be hung. It’s now on the refrigerator, but I’m thinking that I might use it on the door.
This is an easy project that can be made to say anything that you want it to say. You only need to purchase enough leaf shapes to spell out what you want it to say.
Happy Creating everyone!
