I found these little lighthouses at the Dollar Tree.

They are adorable, but they don’t exactly match my plates.

And you know my motto by now.  If it isn’t exactly what you want, change it to make it yours!

I started by base coating the darker colors with white acrylic paint.

Then chose some colors that were closer to the colors in my plates.

After that was done, I wanted them to be used as napkin holders for my table.  hmmmm, how do I attach napkins to the little lighthouses?  Clear hair bands.  Yep, clear hair bands worked.  I had to stretch the largest ones a little to get them to fit over the lighthouse & hold the bulk of the napkin, but it worked!

And since the hair bands are clear, they are barely noticeable.

I did a fan fold for the napkins & tucked them into the back of the lighthouses.   Now they work with my plates, are very unique, and they are serving their purpose.

Just because it isn’t the usual shape to use as a napkin ‘ring’, doesn’t mean that you can’t stretch your imagination.  I hope this has given you some ideas for using other items besides the traditional ones for your table!
