I’m still working on my first Halloween Tree and I’m having a ball. I’ve been trying to make all of the ornaments kid friendly. I really like the way this little Mummy turned out. He’s so cute.
And this is how I made him:
I used 4 white pipe cleaners for the body to make him flexible.
I folded all 4 of the pipe cleaners in half & twisted the ends together. I used one about half way down to make the arms.
Twist the neck area so the 2 ends become one.
Twist the pipe cleaner under the arms until you get almost to the bottom. (this makes the ribcage area) Add another folded in half pipe cleaner to form the legs.
Bend the ‘arm’ pipe cleaner to form shoulders & elbows. Then add a folded pipe cleaner to the top ‘neck’ area. Twist them together to form a neck.
Once the body frame was made, it needed a head! I painted a large wooden bead with white acrylic paint. (2 coats)
Glue (I used hot glue) the white ball to the neck area of the body frame, pushing it down towards the shoulder area.
Loop over some of the pipe cleaner back into the hole in the bead to form an area to hang an ornament hook to. Clip excess and glue in place.
Cut some cheesecloth into strips. My strips were about 1/2″ wide.
Open up the strips and begin to wrap the mummy body. The cheesecloth frays on the cut edges, which gave him the look I wanted. I used small drops of clear Tacky Glue to hold the strips in place. Use the glue sparingly, because the frayed area needs to stick out.
Once you have the body wrapped, use a black Sharpie marker to draw on some eyes to the ball. Draw the eyes in the center of the ball. Then continue to wrap the ball with the strips of cheesecloth, leaving the eye area uncovered. (use the clear Tacky glue to hold the strips in place)
Add a Christmas ornament hanger to the loop in the top of the head, and it’s ready to hang on the tree.
This was actually harder to explain than to make. I hope you like him and give him a try.
Happy Creating everyone!
