When I opened the freezer & things started to fall out, I knew I had to think of a way to get it organized. When it happened the second time, landing on my foot, it was the wake up call that I needed to get it done. (frozen things hurt!)
I started to do some research online, but most of them included items that were very expensive and specific to certain things. I wanted to customize it myself & I wanted FREE.
This is what I came up with:
What did I use?
Since I have cats, the cat litter containers were perfect. The plastic is thicker than most containers, and they’re a rectangular shape. I removed the label, cut off the top to fit the shelves & washed them.
Then I pulled everything out of the freezer & separated it by category. Once that was done, I moved the cut & cleaned containers around in the freezer to find the perfect fit. Once I’d found the fit, I cut out an opening (using scissors) in the front for easy access. Some were cut on the short end, some on the wide end.
Then I started to fill them.
Once they were filled, I used a black Sharpie to label them & then I just started to put them in the freezer. This is the start of the bottom shelf:
Once the bottom was filled I started on the top shelf. Large bags of veggies in the back, Salmon & Shrimp next & Veggies for Stir-Fry.
I kept going until it was filled. I even had room for my ice bag that I use for my migraines. (have to have that frozen)
I didn’t realize how many bags of vegetables I had until I did this. The odds & ends container will change each time I go shopping. This week has Pierogies & meatballs. Next week, who knows? I do make my Chicken Stir-Fry a lot, so there had to be a container just for those veggies. The occasional treat of breaded mushrooms & mozzarella stick needed a space, and there are some frozen lunches for my son to take to work. Hamburgers & Hot Dogs needed a container, as well as 1 1/2# packages of ground beef.
It feels so good to have the freezer organized. And being able to see what I have will make the shopping list easier to put together.
When I showed the hubby what I did, he said, “as long as you know where everything is”. He’s so funny.
Happy Creating everyone!
