Organizing Under the Kitchen Sink

Usually, once I get something organized, it stays that way.  But the area under my kitchen sink was driving me nuts.  The biggest culprit was all of the boxes of food wrap.  I’d pull one out, and the rest of them would go where ever they wanted to go.  I needed something to corral them.  I’ve been searching on Pinterest, YouTube & the Internet.  I couldn’t find anything that I liked.  I thought about doing the stack of fence posting that Alejandra Costello used, but I didn’t think it would work for the area that I had.  Here’s what I came up with:

I found this Contact paper at the Dollar Tree.  I love black & white & I was sold on it when it had cabbage roses on it.

I painted the walls under the sink & then lined the shelves with the Contact paper.  I’ve always loved the little built-in shelf that is under there, so I added the Contact paper to it, too.

The hardest part of lining under the sink was around the pipes.  I didn’t do too bad of a job, but eventually sealed the pipes with white Duck Tape.

Then I found this drawer at Walmart.  I had originally gotten it to hold sponges & cleaning cloths.

But the more I looked at it, the more I realized that it would hold all of those boxes of food wrap.  And it fit under the little shelf!

I put all of my metal cleaners into a cut down cat litter jug.  Now the Tarnex, Brasso, Silver polish & jewelry cleaner are in one small space.

I covered the S.O.S. box & the Magic Eraser box with the same Contact paper.

Getting there

There was still room for my Dawn Foam refill & dish detergent.

The freezer paper was too long to fit in the drawer, but it fit nicely on top of the drawer.  There was even room for the freezer paper tape to sit next to it.  No more going to the kitchen gadget drawer.  And I could fit the kitchen garbage bags next to the freezer paper!  (yeah, I covered that box too)

I got all of my air fresheners together by putting them in the lid of a plastic Velveeta container.  And my ‘go to’ cleaner, Spic ‘n Span spray, fits nicely next to that.  And the most important thing under the sink – a fire extinguisher, is in an easy to reach place.  (God forbid that I ever have to use it, but if I do, I can get to it in a hurry.)

The back is finally organized.  There’s room for the Swiffer dusters and my plant food.  I used a plastic bread box to hold all of my Tupperware gadgets.  (I’ve got a ton of them since I was once a Tupperware Lady.)

I used a clear plastic mail sorter to hold some sponges & the toothbrushes that I use for cleaning all of the nooks & crannies.

Everything is labeled & organized now.

I think this is going to stay organized for a very long time.

Happy Creating everyone!
