Owl Inspired Fall Tablescape

The inspiration for this Fall Tablescape was inspired by something very small.  I found a set of owl salt & pepper shakers a while ago.  I’m not usually attracted to owls, but these little guys tugged at my heart.  The entire tablescape was taken from those little owls.

This is the little owl that inspired me.

I wanted to take the colors from the owl to make the tablescape, but I was having a problem with finding candles with the orange that was on his eyes.  I searched for weeks, and still couldn’t find any, so I did what I usually do when I can’t find what I want…. I made my own.

I started off with white tapers, which I probably could have used for the tablescape, but I like things that match.  I used Delta Ceramcoat Candle & Soap medium & a shade of Acrylic Paint that matched the owl’s eyes.  The directions said to mix the medium & paint 50/50.  I’d never done this before, but it was so easy.  I painted the candles, one section at a time, turning them as they dried.  They needed 2 coats to completely cover the candle.

I can’t believe how easy it was to customize the colors of the candles!  I love the way they turned out!

The centerpiece was made up of items that had the colors of the owls.  Browns, oranges, and a mustard yellow.  And I love how the candles look in wooden candle holders.

I started with a brown Fall charger that looks like carved wood with slight hints of orange.

The place settings are the exact shade of orange that are in the little owl’s eyes.  I used a brown tablecloth & napkins & sprinkled some Fall glitter scatter around.  Simple glasses with a gold rim completed the look that I was going for.

And naturally, I had to light those candles.

The candles burned like any other candle.  The paint didn’t interfere at all.

I think that I’m going to be using the Delta Ceramcoat Candle & Soap Medium more often.

Happy Creating everyone!
