Plastic Skeleton Ornaments

What do you do if you can’t find white skeletons?  That was my problem.  By the time I’d decided to decorate a Halloween Tree, most of the small Halloween decorations were already gone.

I found a package of brightly colored skeletons, and I thought, I can fix that. You know my motto, if you can’t find it, make it yourself!  And that’s exactly what I did.

These are the skeletons that I’d found.  The colors were a bit garish.  So to tone them down, I used white acrylic paint to dry brush them on both sides.  Start with a thin coat of dry brushing.  You can always add more if you need it.

Once the skeletons looked the way I wanted them to look, I added some red acrylic paint to the eyes.  Now they were looking a little bit better and the original color shows through just a little.

Now I needed a way to hang them on the Halloween Tree.  I got out my drill & a thin drill bit.  Slowly, drill a hole in the top of the head.  I made sure that I was drilling into the thinner part of the head to make it easier on me.

Once the hole was drilled, I added a Christmas Ornament hanger.

And they were ready to be hung on the tree!

I like the way the original color shows through, but isn’t overpowering.

Happy Creating everyone!
