The past week, I was pretty much useless. My back was out so badly that just standing to do dishes was painful. Anything but light housework was out of the question. The only time I didn’t hurt was when I was laying down or sitting. Thank God for my chiropractor. I’m pretty much back to my usual self.
Needless to say, I was getting antsy. I needed to do something. Reorganizing sounded like a plan. And this project could be done while sitting. I had my ribbon very organized, but after a year, and lots of crafting, the drawer was becoming a disaster. You can see how I had the craft room organized here.
So, with the help of some poster board and some sequin pins, it’s now looking so organized. And it was easy to do. I actually did it while I was watching TV.
This was how the ribbon drawer looked originally.
But after a year, it became a mess. It didn’t help that I found an entire box of ribbon that I had stored in the barn. ahem…
I started off by measuring the drawer & the size of the dividers that were in there.
The final measurements were 4″ x 4 1/2″. I made a pattern & tried it in the sections. It fit perfectly.
Then I picked up a couple of sheets of poster board. It was 20″ wide, so the pattern would fit nicely.
I used the pattern to make marks where I needed the poster board to be cut. After I was done, I used a yard stick to connect the marks.
Then using a razor, I cut a score line along the lines. Once the score lines were cut, I bent the board along the lines. Then using the razor, I cut the pieces apart by cutting the back of the score lines.
That gave me a stack of pieces to wrap my ribbon on.
Then I started to take the ribbon off of the spools & wrap it on to the pieces. I used a pin to hold the ribbon on the top of the poster board piece to make it easier to keep it straight. Once all the ribbon from the spool was wrapped onto the poster board piece, I removed the pin from the top.
Once the spool was on the poster board piece, I used a sequin pin to hold it in place. I could have used tape, but tape can leave residue on the ribbon. That’s a lot of wasted ribbon.
This should give you some idea of how much the ribbon was condensed once it was off of the spools. All of those spools of ribbon are on those pieces.
Now that I had all of my ribbon condensed & organized by color, the drawer looks so much better. I didn’t bother wrapping the holiday specialty ribbon, since it’s going to be used up in a couple of months.
I like the way it looks now and everything is easy to find.
Happy Creating everyone!
