Fall is here, most vacations are over & the kids are back to school. That means that Christmas is right around the corner. With all of that in mind, I’m playing with shells again. This time I’m using Turritella Shells to make a star shaped ornament. (I usually call them cone shells)
I chose 5 shells that were similar in size & painted them with white pearl acrylic paint.
I got a piece of white crafting foam to use as the center of the ornament. To get a circle shape, I pressed a small flower pot into it. It will leave an indentation in the foam that you can use as a guide to cut around.
I cut out both sizes, but I only needed the smaller one.
Then with a hot glue gun, I started to glue on the shells to the foam circle.
And the star shape was finished.
I wanted something to cover the center of the star (and the glue). I could have used another small shell, but I have so many pretty buttons…(ahem, that’s a whole other story) So I played around with different sizes & shapes until I found two matching buttons that I liked. (one for the front & one for the back) Some were too small, and some just seemed to disappear. I liked the way the larger one looked.
I cut a piece of fishing line (about 10″ long), folded it in half, and knotted the end. I glued the knot to the back, on the foam & added another button to cover it all up.
I didn’t like the holes in the buttons, so I got out my adhesive rhinestones.
I pressed them over the holes to cover them up.
And it was done! Another Shell ornament for my tree this year!
Easy to make, done in very little time. The longest part of this project was waiting for the paint to dry. 🙂
Happy Creating everyone!
