It’s been about a year since I got the painting bug. I guess it’s because it’s getting cold outside that I’ve been painting again. Oh, I’ve done little projects, but I’ve got the urge to paint some ornaments. I started to pull out my old paints, and a lot of them had gotten thick & a little lumpy. And some of my brushes have seen better days.
I went to the craft section of Walmart to get some new angle brushes & 2 colors of paint. The paints were on sale… and this is what I got.
I got the angle brushes that I wanted. They are from Plaid.
I love the way Plaid Brushes work. They paint smoothly & hold up very well.
And the 2 colors that I needed for my first Christmas ornaments were Red Apple & Holly Branch.
Why did I get so many? Because I usually spend $1.49 a bottle at Joann Fabrics. Walmart has them on sale for 50 cents each! Needless to say, payday I’ll be getting some more!
When I get new paints, I make it easier for me to find colors by marking the tops of the bottles. This is how I do it, so that it’s not messy. I gather up a bunch of cotton swabs, dunk one end into the bottle & then dab it on the top of the lid. This way, I can find the color easily & know what it’s going to look like when the paint is dried.
I did this to all of the bottles that I got in my mini haul.
Then I went on to Plaid’s website. They have a PDF that you can download that has all of their paints listed in alphabetical order.
The web address for the PDF is www.plaidonline.com
I printed off a copy & highlighted the colors that I’d gotten in turquoise. I’ll be going through the rest of my paints, and the ones that are still good will be highlighted in another color.
This list is now kept in my purse so that I don’t buy more of what I don’t need. I don’t know about you, but there are certain colors that I’m always drawn to. I find myself buying a lot of Aquamarine & Lilacs.
The PDF also has a colored chart to help me decide which colors I need for what ever project I’m working on. I know that once I looked at the color chart, I now have to get Admiral Blue for some of my sky backgrounds.
I hope this ‘heads-up’ on a terrific sale helps you when you’re working on your holiday crafts.
Happy Creating everyone!
I too am looking for the apple barrel list of colors so I don’t duplicate another purchase. There is only a catalog with color swatches listed on the Plaid website. If you don’t have a colored printer, the pictures are useless. SAD!
I just emailed the company to see if they have a listing. I’ll keep you posted.
Hello I am looking for a list of all of the Apple Barrel colors, and I can not find one so I can print it and have for my records. Would you be able to send me a copy of the lists you have, so I can have them for my records of the paints I have. Thank you so very much.
Hi would you still happen to have a copy of the pdf? It is no longer available through the company
