I remember when I was young & in grade school, we used to make May Day paper cones filled with flowers to give as a gift. We worked so hard on them to make them pretty.
What you were supposed to do is secretly place them on a neighbor’s door, ring the bell or knock on the door, and run away. It was a little something to brighten someone’s day. Most of the time, my little May Day gift was given to my Mom.
Thinking back to the smile that those May Day gifts brought to my Mom’s face is what this week’s tablescape is all about.
The centerpiece is a cone made out of a paper lace place mat. I just rolled it into a cone shape, cut off the excess & glued it into place. Then I filled the cone with some bright yellow daffodils (they always remind me of Spring) I added a yellow ribbon & a small yellow rose to the center of the ribbon bow. Some yellow glass scatter brought the yellow down to the table.
I wanted to use a Spring green for the table, so I started with a green tablecloth topped with an off white tablecloth. The place mat is the same shade of green. I used clear glass dishes so the green would show through. The napkins are off white linen with picket fence napkin rings.
To stay with the May Day cone theme, I added a miniature paper cone filled with yellow & white flowers to the napkin rings. Lime tea lights were added at each place setting.
The tablescape is simple, but it brings back so many sweet childhood memories.
And being me, I had to light the candles!
I hope you enjoyed my May Day Tablescape.
Happy Creating everyone!
