I was looking online for a Pittsburgh Steeler ornament for my nephew, husband and a friend as a Christmas present. (They are all major Steeler fans.) I found one that I really liked, but they wanted $6.00 plus shipping & handling for just one. I knew I could make them for a much better price. Since I was making them, why stop at just the Steelers?
These are so easy to make, and very inexpensive, especially now that there are after Christmas sales going on. And the best part is that they can be customized for any sports team!
Here’s what I came up with:
I’d found these glittered snowflake ornaments everywhere this year. Depending on where you get them, the sizes will be a little different. The larger ones were from Walmart.
I gathered some logos from the Internet & printed them out on cardstock. Printer paper was too flimsy for this project. I let the images dry for about an hour. Once the images was dry, I covered the logos with Mod Podge. If you try this step before the ink has dried, it will smear.
Set aside to dry. When the Mod Podge has dried completely, cut out the logos.
Add hot glue to the center of the snowflakes & hot glue the cut out logo to the center of the snowflake. Make sure that you line up the logo with one of the holes in the snowflake, or it will be crooked when it’s hanging on the tree.
Then I took about 3″ of 20 gage wire to make the hanger. If you use an ornament hanger, you can skip this step. There is a method to my madness. Do this step first before turning it over to do the back. Feed the wire through the hole & make a loop for hanging the ornament.
Turn the ornament over. The ornament hook marks the top of the ornament. This way you can add the logo so that it’s not upside down when hanging. See? I told you there was a method to my madness!
I did one for the Pittsburgh Penguins
One for the Pittsburgh Pirates:
And one for the Pittsburgh Steelers:
While shopping last night, Walmart had all of their Christmas items at 75% off. I found these that I will most definitely be making for next year.
And when I found these purple snowflakes, I thought they’d be wonderful for ornaments using photos of the family!
The possibilities are endless. Have fun with this one. I know I am.
Happy Creating everyone!
