I’m putting up my first Halloween Tree this year, thanks to my sister. She gave me a black Christmas tree that she didn’t want, and I got all sorts of ideas. I’ve been making decorations for it all week. Here’s my first Halloween Tree Ornament that I wanted to share with you. It’s easy to make, and with a little adult supervision, the little ones could do it too! Here’s how I made the Ping Pong Eye Balls:
I found a package of Ping Pong Balls at the Dollar Tree. I thought they would make lovely bloodshot eyes.
All I needed was some acrylic paint, a few sizes of paint brushes, a foam plate, and some water & paper towels for clean up.
I left them in the plastic lid to keep them from rolling around while I was painting them. I chose blue, green, brown & red for the eye colors. I needed 3 coats of paint to completely cover the ping pong ball.
Then I added some black paint to the end of my larger paint brush & put a dot in the center of the colored paint. Then I used a thin detail brush to put a rim around the colored part. While the paint was still wet, I dragged the paint toward the center of the color, towards the dot.
Once the paint had dried, I added red paint to create veins, using the thin detail brush. There was really no pattern that I used, I just made wiggly lines & turned some into a Y shape.
Then came the hard part. (the part that requires adult supervision) I used a nail, that I held by needle nosed pliers, & held it over a candle. Once the nail got hot, I poked a hole in the top of the ball. (the plastic melted easily) I guess I could have used a drill, but I was being lazy.
Then I added a Christmas Ornament hanger to the hole. It slipped right in, & the hook kept it in the ball.
All ready to be hung on the Halloween Tree!
Happy Creating everyone!
