I’ve had this desk for years. It used to be my daughter’s when she was little. It’s the perfect size for my sewing machine and all the things that I need while sewing. (Including my purple TV) Now that the Sewing/Craft room is almost complete, I’ve been spending lots of time organizing everything. The desk was no exception.
The drawer under the sewing machine holds all of my bobbins, scissors, measuring tapes, needles, markers, stitch rippers, hand sewing needles, etc…
The top drawer on the left holds all of my threads. I wanted them to stay organized, so I needed drawer dividers. But I wanted them to be sturdy enough to hold up to my constant use. I thought about using cardboard, but that can become a little flimsy with time. So I opted for wood. I used 5 gallon paint stirrers that I purchased from Walmart. I measured the drawers (twice) so I could cut them to fit tightly.
I got out the manual miter saw: (the family won’t let me near power tools, but that’s another story)
Then, with a little elbow grease, I cut all the sticks that I needed. (I needed 6 of them).
I placed the sticks in-between each different kind of thread that I use. It’s now the most organized that the thread has ever been! All of my Rayon thread is together, all of the neon & metallic together, and the polyester thread is divided by color families.
The middle drawer holds all of the items that I need for wearable art. Iron on studs, beads, Hot Fix Crystals… hoops to hold fabric for embroidery, and all of my appliques (kept in a plastic zip top bag).
The bottom drawer holds all of my belting. Each kind of belting is in its own plastic zip top bag. So if I need metallic vinyl belting, all I need to do is pull out that bag. And it even has room for my pre-made purse handles! (I make a lot of purses)
This is my sewing desk tour. I hope you enjoyed it, and maybe got an idea or two from it. Thanks for stopping by!
