Another Christmas has come and gone. Most of the gifts have been exchanged. (Although there are a few gifts that still need exchanged. Being sick over the holidays is no fun.)
This wreath was made for a friend who loves the color brown. I couldn’t post this earlier, because the recipient of this wreath reads my page, and she’d have known what she was getting before she got it.
I never realized how hard it is to work with browns on a Christmas wreath. Trying to keep it light enough for the dark colors to show up while keeping the browns as a focal point was a challenge for me, but you know me, where there’s a will, I’ll find a way.
I started with a plain pine wreath. They are flat & always look too skinny. I fluffed each of the branches up and had them face the same direction, curving each branch slightly towards the left.
Then I got out the basic supplies that I’d need to get started. Some wire edged ribbon, a box of ornaments (I used the entire box) and a chenille stem. The ribbon that I chose was a medium beige with gold trim, just so that it would show up.
The first thing that I did was make a fluffy bow. I tied the bow with a chenille stem & pulled the ends of the chenille stems through to the back.
Then I twisted the ends together to make a loop for hanging.
Once the bow was in place, I hot glued an end of the remaining ribbon under the bow. Then I place the rest of the ribbon in and out of the branches all the way around the wreath. I played around with the ribbon until I got it to where I wanted it, and then used the hot glue to secure it in place.
The next thing that I did was separate the ornaments into like piles. That made it easier to place them on the wreath without having the same ornament side by side.
Once the ornaments were separated, it was just a matter of choosing where I wanted them. I hot glued them to the wreath, keeping the ornaments separated.
Now to add something lighter in color to make the ornaments pop. To do this, I used some white glitter baby breath. I cut the baby breath to make little bundles.
Then I glued in the baby breath sections behind each of the ornaments. Adding the light color behind the dark brown made each ornament stand out.
Continue adding the baby breath until each ornament has some around it.
To give the bow a little more definition, I used some brown glitter twigs. I cut them up into smaller sections so they fit nicely into the bow.
I just hot glued the small sections of the twigs in and around the bow.
And the wreath was finished.
And here it is on her door.
I think she likes it.
Happy Creating everyone!
