A while ago, a friend posted a picture of a clock on Facebook. She said she really wanted it. When I said that it looked easy enough to make, she said “show me”. I showed the picture to my son, and he said that he wanted one in black & white. So, to satisfy both, I made it for my son’s birthday. It was so easy to make using very little supplies.
Here’s how I made the “Whatever Clock”
I started with a trip to Joann Fabrics where I found a 3 pack of 12″ x 12″ stretch canvases. Luckily I had a coupon.
And I got a clockworks kit:
I used the thinner canvas, which is about 3/4″ deep. Next I had to find the center. I used a yard stick to run a pencil line from corner to corner. The center is where the lines met.
Then I marked the center:
Then I cut a small X at the center.
Once the cuts were made, I tested the size of the hole using the clockworks shaft.
Then I cut away any jagged canvas to make the hole smooth.
Once the hole was trimmed, I turned it over & put some glue around the hole. This was to reinforce the hole.
I turned the canvas over again & applied 2 coats of black acrylic paint to the entire front & sides of the canvas.
While that was drying, I used a white paint pen to paint the clock hands white. They needed 2 coats to completely cover all of the gold.
After the hands were completely dried, I followed the instructions on the back of the clock works package to assemble the clock. (if you chip the paint on the hands, now is the time to touch them up)
Turning the minute hand, I marked the hours on the canvas. You don’t have to do this, but it drove me nuts not to.
I had these Sticko Stickers that I’d gotten from Walmart, that I thought would be perfect for this project.
I added the number stickers to the bottom right hand side of the canvas in a random order.
Then, using the paint pen, I wrote in the saying:
Add a battery and it’s finished!
Here’s the back (it can be hung by the slot in the clock works or by the canvas.
And here’s the front:
A cute new addition to our home that was so easy to make.
Happy Creating everyone!
