It’s no secret that I have O.C.D. ~ Obsessive Christmas Disorder.
I think about Christmas all the time. I can’t look at an everyday item without thinking, “How can I turn that into a Christmas decoration?”
That’s what happened when I posted the Walmart Gem Haul. I saw those pieces of gaudy earrings & I knew exactly what I was going to do with them. Those earrings became this:
The first thing that I did was work on the frame. I always work on the frame first when I’m using any thing that has dimension. I’d had this old frame for years. It needed a fresh coat of paint, but it was in good shape. I gave it a fresh coat of silver paint. It was a very plain frame, and I wanted to ‘jazz’ it up a bit. I’d found these 3D stickers at the Dollar Tree & thought they’d work. I cut out the section that I wanted to use, stuck them on the corners and painted them silver.
Then I added a coat of silver glitter paint to the entire frame, just to liven it up a bit more.
Next, I worked on the backing of the frame. The supplies that I used were: A plate, paint brush, Mod Podge & some black velour.
I coated the cardboard backing with an even, heavy coat of Mod Podge. Then I put the velour on the Mod Podge & smoothed it out. Once it was smooth I cut the excess velour away & then inserted it back into the frame, then signed & dated it.
Now for the fun part. I gathered the earrings from the haul, different sized gem stones, mirror buttons, pearls & some shiny buttons from my collection. I clipped off the posts from the earrings so they would lay flat on the velour backing.
I had so much fun selecting the earrings & other items that I would use for the Jewelry Christmas Tree. Once I finally figured out where I wanted each item, I used hot glue to glue them to the velour.
I keep a mirror in my craft room, not for vanity, but to give another perspective. It’s a trick I learned when I was a floral designer. When you look at your creation in a mirror, it will show you where the bare spots are that you might not have seen with the naked eye.
Almost done. Still have some spots at the top that needed filled in.
And it’s finished!
I like the way this turned out so much that I think I might have to make some more. Maybe an Easter Basket or a Cross?
I hope you enjoyed this Jewelry Christmas Tree.
Happy Creating everyone!
