It’s football season. Here in the Steeler Nation, it’s a big deal. You see it everywhere. Everyone is wearing their team’s colors. It’s only September, and there is a sea of black & gold as far as the eye can see. And I’m sure, if you’re a football fan, you’ve got the television tuned in and everyone is watching. Decorating for that special day in your home is easy. You may remember this centerpiece from the Steeler Tablescape. I thought you might like to know how I made it. This can be made in any color combination, to go with your team’s colors.
I got a foam ring from the Dollar Tree.
It’s a little thick for what I wanted, so I cut it in half using a serrated bread knife.
Once the foam is cut in half, wrap the ring with black ribbon. It doesn’t matter what kind you use, you won’t be seeing it when you’re done. I held the ribbon in place with straight pins and a little hot glue.
Continue wrapping the ring with the ribbon until the ring is covered.
Use straight pins to hold down any areas that are sticking out. I guess you can tell how long I’ve been planning this centerpiece by the next picture. It’s part of my Easter Haul! (I just love 75% off sales)
I took the eggs apart so that I had several halves of the eggs. I used almost an entire bag of the Football Easter Eggs.
I used hot glue on the inside rim of the egg halves and covered the ribbon wrapped foam ring on the top & the outside. Once the ring is covered with the eggs halves, set it aside.
Next, you’ll want to cut some ribbon in the team’s colors. I used black, golden yellow & Offray’s NFL ribbon. Cut the ribbon in 4″ lengths.
I layered the NFL ribbon on a yellow ribbon & held them together with a straight pin.
And then I made loops from the gold & black ribbon.
I made little flags from pieces of the NFL ribbon, double stick tape & toothpicks. All I did was cut a piece of the NFL ribbon so that there were two emblems, put a piece of double stick tape down the center & laid a toothpick in the center. Fold the ribbon over the toothpick, and make sure that the emblem is facing the right way. (ask me how I know this)
I made 4 of the little flags to insert into the centerpiece, but they’d be adorable on cupcakes too.
Adding a little hot glue to the ribbon, insert the loops & straight pieces of ribbon in-between the eggs, anywhere there’s a space.
Keep adding ribbon until all of the spaces are filled in, tuck the flags in, spacing them evenly, and you’re done.
You can use the centerpiece to hold a bowl for game day snack food:
Or use a candle in the center:
And, like I said when I made the Steeler Tablescape, this doesn’t have to be made just for the Steelers. You can personalize it with colors of your favorite team. It would work well for College Football, High School Football, or the Pee Wee League. Can you imagine the look on the face of your “Star Player” when they come home to a dinner set in their team’s colors?
Happy Creating everyone!
