What could have been a nightmare, was in fact, something of a reality. And this is the reason that there is no tablescape this week.
Yesterday, I decided to take a nap. (big mistake) What I woke up to was the sound of rushing water! I knew it wasn’t the washer, so in a half dazed state, and out in the freezing cold, I started to run around the house looking for the cause of the sound.
When I went downstairs, I found a flood of about 1″ of water & the water was shooting out of an electrical outlet. One of the pipes had burst because of the sub-zero weather we’ve had lately. Talk about panic…
I ran back upstairs to get the phone & called my husband. I honestly didn’t know where they had put the shut off valve since everything had been moved around when we installed the new water heater.
In his usual calming voice, and staying with me on the phone, he told me where it was & how to shut it off. Then he gave me the number of the plumber. I was so shaken up that I couldn’t even think of finding it. I called the plumber & left a message. The sub-zero temperatures have caused a lot of work for them.
I got my son up (his day off) & we got the flood under control.
Thankfully the plumber rearranged his schedule so that he could be out in an hour. He shut off the water to the first floor, and because we don’t use that part of the house for anything but storage, we won’t have to tackle the job of removing drywall until the weather gets warmer.
Things are back to normal… kind of…
It could have been so much worse. Needless to say, I’m on a mission to know where everything is from now on. This was a lesson hard learned. But one that I won’t forget, ever.
Hope your day has gone better than mine has. In the mean time,
Happy Creating everyone! 😉
