Making Pastel Glitter

They say necessity is the mother of invention.

I say, if you don’t have what you need, make it.

I needed some pink glitter for an accent on the wings of my Breast Cancer Awareness Angel, it was midnight, and I had none.  So, I decided to try to make some from what I had.  It worked out so well that I made a bunch.  (this wouldn’t have anything to do with my love of that sparkly stuff, would it?)

Here’s how I did it.

Making Fabric Glitter

I’m a ‘girly’ girl and I like feminine clothes.  I love getting dressed up to go out with my hubby.  But for shopping, around the house, picnics and work, I like T-Shirts.  They’re comfortable & easy to take care of.  But when I buy my T-Shirts, I buy Men’s.  Why?  Women’s  T-Shirts are cut wider & shorter than the Men’s shirts.  I like my shirts to cover my bum.  And the sleeves on a women’s T Shirt are very short.  I don’t do sun very well, so I like my arms covered.  But, like I said, I’m a girly girl.  How do I combine the two?  Yep, you guessed it.  Glitter!  Besides, what girl doesn’t like a little ‘bling’?

I was shopping for T-Shirts for my hubby, when I found this T-Shirt for me!  It’s a nice shirt, very patriotic for all of the holidays in the summer, but I didn’t necessarily want it to look like it came from the men’s department.

I washed & dried the shirt, without adding any fabric softener, so that the fabric glitter would adhere better.

Shabby Chic Ornament Frames

I wanted to make a special gift for a friend’s grand-daughter’s first birthday.  And since I always have Christmas on my mind, I thought that a Christmas ornament that was personalized would be a nice gift.  I wanted it to be a ‘girly-girl’ gift, so I went with Shabby Chic.  And while I was at it, I may as well make more than one.  It’s always nice to have extra gifts on hand.  Well, this is what I made:

Scatter Candle – tutorial

I recently went to the Dollar Tree to get a replacement for a candle holder goblet that had been broken.  When I was looking around, I’d noticed that they had just gotten in an entirely new line of glass candle holders.  When I saw these square candle holders with straight sides, I just had to have them.  I’d seen something similar years ago, and I’ve been wanting to try my hand at it ever since.  And now that my flat backed glass table scatter collection has grown, (there are so many beautiful colors now) I was ready!

Glitter!

I love glitter, especially the fine glitter.  I can’t help it, I’m hopelessly addicted.  I’ve tried to stay away from it, but the sparkles just call to me.  To say that I was excited when Walmart got a new 12 pack in, is putting it mildly.  The colors are glorious. I’ve already used the green for the St. Patrick’s Day T-Shirt!

This is what I found:

12 pack of glitter

I was immediately in love when I turned the box over.

12 colors of glitter

There was purple, lilac, pink, red, blue, green, black, white, turquoise, gold, silver & copper.  All in a fine texture!  I had to have it! Continue reading
