Live, Laugh, Love – Wall Hanging

It’s no secret how much I love my ‘bling’.  I just can’t seem to get enough of it.  When I wanted to add a new wall hanging for my hallway, this project seemed to be perfect.

The hallway is a little dark, so I wanted to add as much of a reflective surface to the piece as I could.  I found some silver glitter Duck Tape Laminate at my local Walmart.  This would be the perfect background for the wall hanging.

The frame that I had, didn’t have a backing, so I cut some Foam Board to fit the frame.  I covered one side of it with the laminate.  I cut the corners off to remove the excess, then pressed the excess down onto the board.  Once that was done, I covered the other side with a piece of the laminate to give it a more finished look.

The frame didn’t come with a hanger, so I did what I always do, I made my own.  I wish that I’d have had some picture hangers on hand, but I didn’t.  I used some string that I had on hand & stapled it to the side of the frame.  Then I judged how much I needed for it to hang properly, stapled the other end to the opposite side & cut off the excess.

Once the frame was done, the fun part began.  The supplies I used:

I found these wooden words at Michaels.  I also used Mod Podge, white glitter, a paint brush & paper plate.

And gem stones… lots & lots of gem stones.  I got a box of various sized gems from Joann’s & yes, I did go through the entire box to separate the sizes.

First, I coated the wooden words with a thick coat of Mod Podge.

Then I added glitter… lots & lots of glitter.

I shook off the excess glitter and set them aside to dry.  Once they were dry to the touch, I went on to the sides of the words repeating the same steps I did for the front of the words.  I wanted the words to have a sparkly base just in case they showed between the gems.

On to the gems.  I used a thick coat of Aileen’s Tacky Glue to adhere the gems to the words.  It dries clear so the glitter would show through & it holds the gems very well.

I repeated this step, one by one until the words were completely covered.  I set them aside overnight to make sure that they were completely dried.

Once the words were dry, I hot glued them on to the silver backing.

With all of the sparkle, the frame looked a little plain… ahem.  I’d found these Duck Tape Adhesive Gems a while ago & thought they would be perfect for the frame.  They were 2 wide, so I just cut them in the middle.

Since the Duck Tape Gems are self adhesive, all I had to do was to press them along the frame.  Looked good, but the corners needed something.  I really didn’t like the empty space on the corners.

I decided to add some gem stones to the corners & a couple along the sides.  I used a measuring tape to find the center of the frame sides.  I used hot glue to adhere the gem stones to the frame.

It was done & only needed to be hung.  This little wall hanging really adds the sparkle that my dark hall needed.

I love it!
