If you’re looking for an easy way to add a little Irish decor to your home for St. Patrick’s Day, this is it. It’s simple enough for the Wee Ones to do, but looks like it was purchased instead of the usual kid’s crafts. Adults can really get creative with this project, too.
You don’t need much to make this little sign. Some wooden blocks, (mine were 1″), some white & green acrylic paint, stick on letters & glue. I actually had all of the items on hand, so this little Irish addition cost me nothing. (I love those kinds of projects.)
I started by painting the little blocks. I like to base coat wood with white acrylic paint before I paint it. Why? Because base coating wood lets the true color of the paint that you’ve chosen show true without the wood grain coming through.
I love the Apple Barrel acrylic paint called New Shamrock. Naturally, it was perfect for this project. I used 2 coats of paint.
I don’t know if you can see the difference, but the blocks on the left were not base coated with the white paint. You can see the wood grain showing through.
I found these adhesive backed foam letters at Walmart. They are 1″ high and were perfect for this project.
Once the blocks were dried, I played around with them until I decided what I wanted the sign to say. Then I just pressed the letters on to the blocks.
Then I glued them together.
I could have left the open space, but I had these Shamrock gems on hand, so I added one to the space.
Now I have a sweet little sign to add to my St. Patrick’s Day decor.
Happy Creating everyone!
