The sewing room is coming along. There’s a new addition to the room that gives me even more storage. (which in a 6′ x 7′ room, you need storage)
We got this upper cabinet from my mother-in-law. (Her neighbor had given it to her when the redid their kitchen) It was in good shape. Although it only had one door, but that is fine. It just needed a little ‘Creatively Sams’ added to it.
Here it is, before & after:
The cabinet was an orangy shade.
I took off all of the hardware & removed the door
And it had this awful contact paper that was seriously stuck. I peeled as much off as I could, and had to use Goo Gone to get the last bits off.
After I washed the entire cabinet, I got out a sponge sanding block and started to sand the entire piece, lightly.
It just needed enough sanding to give it some ‘tooth’ for the paint to hold on to.
After the piece was completely sanded, both inside & out, I took a damp wash rag & went over it several times, rinsing the wash rag out each time, to remove the sawdust.
Once all of the sawdust was removed & the cabinet was dry, I started to prime the cabinet. I started with the inside:
Then I started on the outside:
I let it completely dry overnight. Then I started to paint it, starting with the inside & working my way to the outside. (It took 2 coats)
I repeated the same steps for the door. I painted the hinges white & changed out the handle with a crystal pull.
My wonderful husband surprised me by putting the cabinet up while I was at work! Now I have a place for all of my cans of spray paint! The shelves allow 4 cans deep!
And the open side holds project that are in progress:
It now resides above my work surface and I can’t thank my mother-in-law & my husband enough. It’s organized & got rid of another box of supplies that I use at least twice a week!
Hope you enjoyed another installment of my Sewing Room/Craft Room Re-Do.
Happy creating everyone!
