I’m usually drawn to a more modern decor, but there is a ‘girly’ side of me that loves Shabby Chic. I wanted to do a new Christmas Village vignette this year, and since my favorite color is lilac, I decided to go with that color. Here’s how I turned Dollar Tree houses into a Shabby Chic Lilac Village.
I started out with 3 Christmas houses & a Manger scene that was purchased at the Dollar Tree.
They were cute, and I knew that they’d work for what I had in mind. I painted the pieces with a solid coat of white acrylic paint.
Then I painted the houses with a lilac paint and added a light sage green to the areas that had plants. I added silver to the church bell (silver bells), the star on the manger & the flower pots.
Once the paint had dried, I got out the Mod Podge & crystal glitter! (Love my glitter)
I covered the pieces, one at a time, with the Mod Podge and then covered the Mod Podge with the glitter. I love the results.
I’d gotten some bottle brush trees at the Dollar Tree and using Tacky Glue, I beaded them. After they were beaded, I added some organza ribbon for the garland. And naturally, I had to add some glitter to the base of the trees.
I put some quilt batting on a tray, and put a string of 10 white lights under the batting. I added a fine coat of glitter to the batting to give it snowy look. Then I placed the trees & houses on the batting.
The Shabby Chic Lilac Village was done! I’m crazy about the way it turned out. And here’s how it looks when it’s lit up:
I realize that most Shabby Chic is done with pinks, and you could certainly paint yours a pink… or blue… or turquoise… or any color that is your favorite! That’s the beauty of crafting! You can make it your own!
Happy Creating everyone!
